Using the GUI

Run python gui.py (desktop) or python gui.py --web (browser). The window opens on the Run tab: settings categories on the left, run controls along the bottom, a log strip beneath.

First run — Setup

On the Connection / Setup tab, paste your Plex URL + token and your DoesTheDogDie key (each field has a "how do I get this?" helper). Click Test in the bottom bar — the log confirms both connections.

Choosing what to process

  • Libraries — tick Movies / TV Shows, optionally name specific libraries, and pick TV levels (series / season / episode).
  • Filtering — vote thresholds, the ✅ safe list, optional translation.
  • Topics — load the ~200 DTDD topics, browse them grouped by category, and tick Include (only these) or Exclude (hide these). Hover a topic for its description.
  • Appearance — layout (inline / one-per-line / categorized), per-category emoji, a quick-pick warning emoji, and a live preview of the block.

Running — three clearly-labeled actions

Set Scope to a single title, or leave it blank for all libraries, then:

  • Dry run → Review — opens a Review tab showing exactly what would be written. Nothing changes.
  • Write now (skip review) — match and write straight to Plex.
  • Clear — remove every warning this tool added.

The Review workflow

Each Dry run opens a Review tab (up to 5 at once; each has its own Commit button). Every matched item shows the exact warning block. Triggers with extra detail get an expandable section where you pick descriptions per scene:

  • 🕐 timestamped scenes (subscriber timecodes) — [0:14:38] A puppy is killed…
  • 💬 community notes (available on most titles, no timestamp)

Ticked descriptions appear under their category in the live preview. When it looks right, click Commit this review → Plex.

Timestamps & skip cues

With a DoesTheDogDie subscription, warnings can show when a scene happens. Toggle on the Appearance tab:

  • Show timestamps → a dog dies (0:14:38)
  • Show skip cues → a dog dies (0:14:38 → 0:16:21) — when to look away and when it's safe again

Only titles with submitted timecodes have them (mostly popular films). If you subscribed recently, click Clear cache so old "no timecodes" responses refresh.
